child friendly hours 6 Months ago
I'm a postman and will be balloted on the new terms by my union soon.
One of the changes to be implemented is my shift times, i currently finish work no later than 2pm mon-fri, 12pm sat, though this is usually 11am due to a slight change in working practice.
however the new proposed shift would be 3pm finish mon-sat.
This would mean i could no longer make it in time for the school run, and would scupper the usual saturday entertainment going to the match.
If this deal gets accepted i would most probably have to resign from a job i love doing, this just doesn't seem fair.

have you spoken to your union rep specifically about this?

You may have a right to request flexible working or, if that is not appropriate, come to an agreement with management.

that's very annoying though - your union would be first port of call.

Its our union thats agreed the deal, though still to be voted in,
I have told my rep of my concerns and he said wait and see, there could be local agreements.
As for the flexible working,
we are soon to be working in pairs,
so it also depends on who i get paired with, which would change week in week out,
Suppose I'll have to wait until balloted, everyone Ive spoke to says they'll reject the deal,
Don't believe all the media about big pay deals, it comes with some very bad terms.
